March 19, 2011

Another significant milestone was recently passed… This week we added item #4,000,000 to the site. It was submitted by friarg, who happens to be a brand new consignment seller..

For Sale: $10 Million

March 3, 2011

No, COMC is not for sale, but we did just cross $10 million in book value worth of cards for sale.

$100K to $10 Million in less than 4 years is not too shabby… We also just crossed 900,000 different cards for sale in the past couple days.

Who has the largest inventory of sports cards in the world? Do you think COMC will ever catch them? If so, how long do you think it will take?

2010 Q4 Stats

January 6, 2011

Another great quarter!

Website Performance Notes
As mentioned in last quarter’s stat post, the load on our servers is greater than ever before. Not only are we serving more pages, but each page is sifting through more data. Last quarter we decided to hold off on a couple major database optimizations to ensure that we didn’t introduce any new issues during the holiday season. This quarter we are going to move ahead with those changes. This should make it possible for our servers to handle a lot more than the 4.5 million page views that we get each month.

2 Million, 3 Million + Auction Results

October 22, 2010

If you have been following our Twitter, you might have seen some of this news.

2 Million

Today we surpassed 2 million cards currently for sale.

Congrats to ddearing for recently taking the top spot on the sellers list.

3 Million

On Tuesday I purchased item #3,000,000 from pskell02.

Auction Results

The bidding ended on Tuesday night for a batch of auctions we ran to help raise funds for a local shop owner. Here are the results.

Auction Bids  Winning Bid  Winner
$1K BV in Sports Cards from djssportscards 11 $200.00  mocards
$3K BV in Hockey Cards from djssportscards 14 $650.00  mocards
$12K BV in Basketball Cards from djssportscards 5 $1,300.00  Flipper
$12K BV in Football Cards from djssportscards 5 $1,209.51  JoelsHitShow
$20K BV in Baseball Cards from djssportscards 8 $2,063.60  JoelsHitShow

The auctions resulted in djssportscards getting nearly 50% more in pocket than he would have if we had just pushed through the portfolio sale that he had arranged with another buyer.

Thanks to all the bidders. I know this is very helpful for djssportscards.

2010 Q3 Stats & Performance Notes

October 10, 2010

Another quarter with steady growth on all fronts.

Website Growth & Performance Demands

It is interesting to follow the average page views per month from year to year for .
2007 Q3 – 0.1 million views/month
2008 Q3 – 1.1 million views/month
2009 Q3 – 2.5 million views/month
2010 Q3 – 4.4 million views/month

As the traffic continues to grow we need to make performance optimizations to handle the workload. In a post on Monday I alluded to some changes that might be noticeable by repeat visitors. The major update that I made was a performance optimization that affected nearly every page of the website. As a result many pages started loading significantly faster.

We migrated from using ASP.Net’s stored procedure profile provider for custom user information to using direct queries with Microsoft’s LINQ to SQL. This made it very easy for us to make highly targeted, optimized, and secure queries just when we needed the information.

This is just the first of many performance improvements we plan to make to the site. Over the next few weeks I will discuss a monumental change that we have in the works. Hint: The future is cloudy.

2010 Q2 Stats: 1,000,000 Cards Sold

July 2, 2010

A few days ago we crossed a major milestone as a company. We have facilitated the sales of more than 1,000,000 cards that have been sent to us on consignment.

Other than that, I will let the stats speak for themselves since I am on vacation.

Note: The Cards Sold have been updated to reflect the new port sale and auction style transactions that we support

Quarterly growth trend continues

April 9, 2010

Here are our 2010 Q1 stats.

100K reasons to expand

January 20, 2010

I recently posted about the site reaching 1 million cards for sale. 6 weeks have passed, and we have grown by 10% to 1.1 million cards for sale!

This brings me to our big news and a flashback from 2 years ago… We are moving and hiring.

Upcoming Move
To keep pace with the growing demand for the service, we have spent the last couple months preparing to move into a larger space. Our goal is to complete the move without any disruptions to any of our services. Everything will continue as scheduled. Orders will continue to be shipped without skipping a beat. We expect to hit all of our guaranteed due dates for processing cards going up for sale. To make sure this happens smoothly, we are spreading parts of the move over the next couple weeks. Next week we will update the site with our new mailing address. Until then, you can continue shipping packages to our current address.

Bigger Workspaces
With a dozen people working from our current location, everyone has been working in tight quarters. With the new location each person will have at least twice as much space to work. This should help improve efficiency and accuracy which will allow us to absorb the increased overhead without needing to increase any fees.

More Workspaces
Not only will each workspace be larger, but we will also have twice as many workspaces. Our goal is to grow to 25-30 employees over the next three years. The new location will make that possible. If you would like to join our team, get your resume prepared. During the first week of February we will start posting our job openings. Keep an eye on the blog for more news.

Public Access
We are using every inch of our current location, so there was no opportunity for us to make a place for customers to stop by. In the new location, we have a portion of the space that is sectioned off for buyers and sellers to drop by. We are excited about all the ways we anticipate using this space. I look forward to having a place where you can swing by when you are in the Seattle area. Over the next several months we will start announcing what will be available here.
